Curtain Raiser: NHRC, India's day long International Human Rights Conclave begins in New Delhi on 1st October, 2018. (28.09.2018)



The National Human Rights Commission is celebrating its Silver Jubilee this year and has planned a host of events to celebrate this important milestone. As part of the Silver Jubilee celebrations, the Commission is organizing a one day 'International Human Rights Conclave' at Ashok Hotel, New Delhi on 1st October, 2018.

The International Conclave is aimed at providing a platform to the National Human Rights Institutions of various countries, global network of NHRIs, government and non-government organizations and other stakeholders to share their views, experiences, challenges, best practices and to deliberate on the road ahead on important human rights concerns.

Hon'ble Vice President, Shri Venkaiah Naidu will be the Chief Guest of the International Human Rights Conclave, which will be attended by the representatives of Global Alliance of NHRIs (GANHRI), the four regional networks of GANHRI, the Commonwealth Forum of National Human Rights Institutions (CFNHRI), and several NHRIs. Other invitees to the Conclave include the Secretaries of concerned Ministries of Government of India, State Human Rights Commissions, National Commission for Women, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Minorities, and Child Rights, Diplomatic Corps, civil society organizations, and other delegates.

The Conclave, besides the inaugural session, will be divided into three thematic sessions namely, (i) Emerging Dimensions of Human Rights with focus on Trafficking/Migrants/Forced Labour and Rights of Marginalized Sections of Society: Sharing of Best Practices, (ii) Protect, Respect and Remedy Framework of Business and Human Rights. (iii) Empowerment of Women and Protection of Children with focus on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG): Challenges and Road Ahead.

The event is expected to contribute to the continuing dialogue on the sharing the best practices on above themes on the rights of all the diverse sections of the society. NHRIs and other stakeholders will exchange their views and good practices on the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights which will also help in building the synergies among all stakeholders in these focus areas. The session would further help create effective framework to enable the process of developing policies, programmes and practices which will ensure equal rights and opportunities for all for their overall survival, development, protection, participation and empowerment.
