Shri Piyush Goyal is an Indian Administrative Service officer of the 1994 batch from the Nagaland cadre. He holds a B.Tech. degree in Electrical Engineering from IIT – BHU, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh and an M.Tech. degree in Behavioral Science from IIT, Delhi. He is presently the Secretary General of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), New Delhi.

Before joining NHRC, he was working as Secretary, Ministry of Mines, Government of India, where he implemented several reforms in exploration, auction and mining of minerals. He accelerated work under the National Critical Mineral Mission so as to make the country Aatma nirbhar in this regard. Earlier, Sh. Goyal served as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs, holding charge of various Divisions like North-East, Jammu-Kashmir & Ladakh, Administration, Coordination & International Cooperation. Besides, he was CEO of NATGRID (National Intelligence Grid), which fulfilled the vision of a robust state of art technological platform for real-time availability of information in the national interest.

Shri Goyal held various posts earlierin the Government of Uttar Pradesh and Government of Nagaland.
