Asia Pacific Forum of National Human Rights Institutions (APF)

The Asia Pacific Forum of National Human Rights Institutions (APF) is a leading regional organization dedicated to promoting and protecting human rights by enhancing collaboration among National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) throughout the Asia Pacific region. APF supports its member institutions by providing technical assistance, capacity building, and facilitating cooperation on key human rights issues.

●  In September 2023, NHRC had the honour of hosting the 28th APF Annual Meeting and Biennial Conference in New Delhi. The event brought together APF member NHRIs and Representatives from governments, civil society organizations, and UN agencies

●  Held under the theme of “Conference of National Human Rights Institutions of Asia Pacific,” the Biennial Conference featured three thematic sessions:

      -  30 Years of Promoting and Protecting Human Rights in the Asia Pacific

      -  Advancing the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and its enduring promise of freedom, equality, and justice for all

      -  The Role of NHRIs in Responding to Climate Change and its impact on human rights

NHRC is also a member of the Drafting Committee for the Guiding Principles on the Role of NHRIs in Conflict Situations in the Asia Pacific. This initiative seeks to:

●  Develop normative guidance for NHRIs working in conflict and post-conflict contexts

●  Promote a rights-based approach to peacebuilding, humanitarian action, and transitional justice

●  Disseminate principles to regional and global stakeholders for effective implementation
