3. Issues notice to Commissioner of Police, Delhi on the detention of five children
The Commission issued notice today to the Commissioner of Police, Delhi on a complaint that five children, all below 12 years, were picked up by the Vasant Vihar Police on 16 June 2006, lodged in the jail and produced before the Metropolitan Magistrate the next day. According to the petition, these children were picked up on the complaint of Dr. Mahender Prasad Singh, a Rajya Sabha MP and his chowkidar. The petitioner alleged that in the prison the children were not provided food and under pressure from the MP, implicated in a false case under Section 379/511 IPC. It is alleged that these children were subjected to cruelty and beating. The petitioner sought for an independent inquiry and action against the guilty police personnel for detention and torture in the custody and compensation for the victims.
The Commission, after going through the contents of the case, sought information and report from the Commissioner of Police, Delhi within four weeks from the date of receipt of the notice.
