4. UP State Power Corporation enhances relief in electrocution case
The Commission has appreciated the humane response of the UP State Power Corporation in enhancing the benefit for death due to electrocution from Rs. 20,000/- to Rs. 50,000/-. The enhancement of relief had been sanctioned to the widow of Mangal Sen who had died of electrocution after coming into contact with a high tension wire. His widow had approached the Commission for relief. The Commission felt the amount of Rs. 20,000/- towards "compensation" paid by the Corporation to the widow of the deceased was grossly inadequate. It had requested the Chairman, UP State Power Corporation to personally look into the matter and pay adequate compensation, ex-gratia or otherwise, to help the family of the deceased.
