6. Srinagar school children's death by electrocution
The manner in which 2 students died as a result of a live wire falling on a school in Srinagar as reported in the media on 19 October 2004 has prompted the Commission to call for a factual report from the Chief Secretary, Government of Jammu & Kashmir within 4 weeks.
The news item stated that two students were killed and six critically injured when a live wire fell on the roof of a school building at Shariefabad, near Zainakote, Srinagar. 41 students who were taking the final term examination at that point of time panicked and while rushing out two of them i.e. Tanvir Ahmad, a Kindergarten student and Mohammad Maqbool of third standard came in contact with the live wire and got electrocuted. Six others suffered severe burn injuries and were hospitalized.
