A free psychiatric clinic for mental patients in District Chindwara
With the NHRC's persuasion, the Madhya Pradesh Government finally paved the way for SEVAC, an NGO, to run a free psychiatric clinic with the support of European Union in District Chindwara. Mr. Nanabhau Mohod, the State Minister for School Education, inaugurated it at the Civil Hospital, Sausur on the 30th August, 2012.
Mr. A.K. Parashar, Joint Registrar (Law), NHRC represented the Commission on the occasion.
This initiative was taken after Dr. Tapas Kumar Ray, Founder Secretary of SEVAC, brought to the notice of the Commission, the deplorable living conditions of several mentally ill persons thronging the Chamatkarik Hanuman Temple at Sawli village in the District for 'faith healing', and who had no psychiatric treatment facility in the vicinity. A project for provision of counselling the mentally ill patients at the temple by SEVAC was also supported by the NHRC with assistance of rupees 1.32 lakh.
