A gym trainer loses his right arm in alleged firing by police: NHRC issues notice to SSP, Gautam Budh Nagar, UP (24.7.2015)

The National Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report that a gym trainer was allegedly shot by two Police Constables in Greater NOIDA, Uttar Pradesh on the 13th July, 2015 following which his right arm had to be amputated at a private hospital in NOIDA. Reportedly, the victim was returning from a party at his friend's house in Greater NOIDA when the incident occurred.

The Commission has observed that the content of the media report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights. Accordingly, it has issued a notice to the Senior Superintendent of Police, Gautam Budh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh calling for a report within two weeks.

According to the media report, the victim claimed that cops had destroyed his life and goals. The Police Constables said, in a statement, that it was dark and they heard a cry for help from a car and assumed some of the occupants were criminals in the process of committing a crime so they fired one round from a service revolver.
