A little girl crushed under police barricade in Delhi: NHRC issues notice to the Delhi Chief Secretary and Police Commissioner

The National Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report alleging that a five-year-old girl was crushed under a police barricade in south Delhi's Neb Sarai area on the 3rd September, 2012.

The Commission observed that the media report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights and issued a notice to the Chief Secretary, Government of NCT of Delhi and the Commissioner of Police, Delhi calling for reports in the matter within four weeks.

Allegedly, the victim, Sabina, a resident of Tigri Camp JJ Colony, was waiting for her mother to finish work at a building near the Krishna Park Temple, when she found the barricade tethered to another building by a chain. When the girl and three of her friends climbed onto the barricade, to use it as a swing, the chain restraining it snapped. While the three other children wriggled out, Sabina was killed.
