A Six-Member investigation team of NHRC to visit Nandigram tomorrow

New Delhi November 14, 2007. A Six-Member team from the Investigation Division of National Human Rights Commission will be visiting Nandigram tomorrow. The team headed by Shri S.P. Singh, SSP, will consist of Smt Mamta Singh, SSP, two DSPs besides two others. The team will do fact-finding in each of the incident, the exact nature of the incident, look into the genesis of the problem, the reasons which led to causalities, death and alleged molestation and the sequence of events. Besides, the NHRC team would look into the role of the police and the local administration to ascertain whether there had been any lapses on their part. It will also chalk out remedial measures so as to rehabilitate those affected by violence in the area and suggest how durable peace can be established in the region to offset the recurrence of such incidents.
The team will also review the progress made in the investigation on the incidents of violence in the same area in the month of March this year as asked by the Commission earlier.


NHRC sends notice to Chief Secretary, Delhi, on blueline buses
New Delhi November 14, 2007
The National Human Rights Commission has sent notice to the Chief Secretary, Delhi, on the deaths on Delhi roads due to blueline buses. It has given four weeks time to the authority for a report. The Commission's direction comes on a complaint filed by Shri Vijay Goel, former MP. In the complaint, Shri Goel had pointed out that the traffic police, transport department and other concerned authorities had failed to regulate and curb these killer buses and had failed in their constitutional obligations.
