Activities in the run up to the World Conference on Racism

In connection with the World Conference Against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance scheduled to be held on 31August – 7 September 2001 at Durban, South Africa, the Commission is organising one Seminar each at Delhi and Bangalore on the themes of the World Conference. The Commission proposes to invite representatives of non-governmental organizations, human rights activists, academics, senior civil servants and others to the Seminar. In addition, the Commission proposes to bring out a Manual for Teachers, which seeks to incorporate Human Rights Education with a specific emphasis on Racism and related issues into the lectures or other educational activities. The Commission plans to work closely with the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) and the National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) in this regard.

The above activities are being undertaken with the support of the office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
