Asma Jahangir visits NHRC

The UN Special Rapporteur on “Freedom of Religion and Belief” Ms. Asma Jahangir, visited the National Human Rights Commission in New Delhi today. Ms Asma Jahangir called on the NHRC Chairperson Justice Shri S. Rajendra Babu. She held discussions with the Chairperson, Members and Senior Officials of the Commission. The discussions centered on religious issues in India which have a bearing on Human Rights. The visiting dignitary discussed the instances of communal violence in different parts of India, rehabilitation of riot affected in Gujarat, and the issue of religious conversion. Ms. Jahangir was briefed about the Commission’s working and also about the co-ordination between the NHRC and the SHRCs.
