The National Human Rights Commission on 3rd June summoned the District Magistrate and the Municipal Commissioner, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh and asked them to remove the furnaces which were being used for extraction of fat from the animal bones within 15 days and stop illegal abattoirs from operating on Corporation land. Both the officers were asked to submit an action taken report by 23rd June, 2009. They assured compliance with the Commission's recommendations.
