Media carried report on the 4th April, 2010 alleging that about fifty children were born blind due to a disease caused by arsenic present in water in the District Bhojpur, Bihar. Taking suo motu cognizance of the media report on the 16th April, 2010, the Commission observed that its contents, if true, raised serious issue of violation of human rights of the children, and issued notices to the Chief Secretary, Bihar and Secretary Health, Government of Bihar calling for reports in the matter.
