The Commission has been monitoring the bonded labour situation in the country especially in the 16 bonded labour prone states following a request made by the Supreme Court in 1997. One of the tasks identified by the Commission, for the effective implementation of the Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Act 1976, is that of sensitizing the District Magistrates/Collectors, Zilla Panchayats, Labour Department officials and other State government functionaries about the provisions of the Act. The Commission in collaboration with State Governments conducts Bonded Labour sensitization workshops. One such workshop was recently held for the officials concerned belonging to the Rajasthan Government at Jaipur on 25 Feb 2005.
Another sensitization workshop was organized in collaboration with the Government of Madhya Pradesh at Bhopal on 23 March 2005.
The Commission has so far conducted 10 such workshops in the States of Jharkhand, Haryana, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab, NCT of Delhi, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh.
