NHRC Award for Creative Writing in Hindi
for the year 2004-2005 announced

The prize winners for the creative wiring on Human Rights in Hindi awarded by the National Human Rights Commission for the year 2004-05 has been announced. Smt. Pushpa Sinha has been adjudged the first prize winner in the category for the best original work in Hindi. The Second prize has gone to Shri Satya Narayan Sabat, while the third prize has been awarded to Dr. R.C.Mishra.
Smt. Pushpa Sinha's novel 'Mahilanama' (manuscript) 'Manavadhikar avum Mahilayen' deals with the rights of women of different sections of our society. The novel narrates the fate of a girl-child called Mammuni, who escapes being a victim of female foeticide. On attaining adulthood she learns about the incident from her mother after which the course of her life changes and she decides to fight for the rights of women. The novel also depicts how awareness can be created for the protection of rights of women without spending money and through non-violence. Pushpa Sinha is an educationist, writer and a member of the 'Indian Society of authors'.
Shri Satya Narayan Sabat has authored the book 'Bharatiya Sanskriti Mein Manavadhikar ki Avadharana', which deals with human rights in the light of Indian culture and stresses how it directly and indirectly is influenced by the same. Shri S.N.Sabat is an IPS officer, 1990 batch, UP Cadre and presently posted as DIG (Police), ISBF, Varanasi.
Shri R.C.Mishra's book 'Manavadhikar Sanrakshan vishesh sandharbh apradihiyon ka nirodh avum upachar' which secured him the third prize, deals with human rights and policing. These bi-annual awards were instituted by NHRC in 1998 in order to promote original writings in Hindi on various subjects pertaining to human rights and are in two categories. The first category is for best original work in Hindi with the first prize carrying a cash award of Rs. 25,000/-, the second prize carrying a sum of Rs.20,000/- and third prize of Rs. 15,000/-. The second category is for translation into Hindi of standard books on Human Rights written in English or in any of the regional languages of India. The prize money being Rs.15,000/-, Rs.10,000/- and Rs.7,500/- for the first, second and third prizes respectively. No entry was considered suitable for awards in the translation category for the year 2004-05.
The awards will be presented to the winners at a special function on the concluding day (i.e. 3rd March, 2006) of the two day National Seminar on "Concept of Human Rights in Indian Culture and Importance of Human Rights Education in India" which is being held on 2nd and 3rd March, 2006 at the India Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road, New Delhi. Eminent and distinguished scholars are participating in this event.
