Commission Engages Special Rapporteurs
Keeping in view the increasing workload of the Commission, a need was felt that services of some eminent persons who have knowledge or practical experience in dealing with the human rights issues may be utilized to assist the Commission in discharging its statutory responsibilities. Accordingly, Shri Damodar Sarangi, IPS(Retd.), Smt Asha Das, IAS (Retd.) and Smt. Kanchan Choudhary Bhattacharya, IPS (Retd) have been engaged as Special Rapporteurs for a period of three years.
Shri Sarangi will look after the states of Sikkim, West Bengal, Orissa and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Smt. Das will monitor the human rights issue of disabled persons, women, children and trafficking. Smt. Kanchan Choudhary Bhattacharya will look after the human rights issues of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Delhi.
