Commission issues notice to Haryana Government on Sonepat Remand Home Juveniles' Plight

The Commission has taken cognizance of the plight of juveniles who travel from the Remand Home located at Sonepat in Haryana to the Juveniles Justice Board at Ambala every Wednesday.
The Commission received a complaint from Ms. Subina Mehra C/o Mohan Lal & Co., Ambala Cantt. Haryana. She alleged that these children have to leave Sonepat at 7.00 a.m. after taking their breakfast. They then go hungry and thirsty all day, as there is no provision for lunch or tea in the Ambala District Court. The juveniles return to Sonepat at 7 p.m. leaving Ambala after 4 p.m. and if they reach Sonepat late in the evening, they forego dinner as well.
Based on the complaint the Commission issued notices to Chief Secretary, Haryana and Secretary, Department of Child & Women Welfare of Haryana State to look into the matter including the aspect of a possibility of setting up of Juvenile Justice Board/Court at Sonepat or providing a remand home for Juveniles at Ambala. The report has been called within 2 weeks.
