The National Human Rights Commission has re-constituted its Core Group on Bonded Labour with 12 nominated members. They include senior government functionaries from the Ministry of Labour and Employ-ment, V. V. Giri National Labour Institute, Regional Labour Commissioner, Central, domain experts, representatives of civil societies and NGOs. The Core Group will help the Commission in reviewing existing Government policies, laws, rules, orders etc concerning the bonded labour system and make an assessment of current status of enforcement of Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Act, 1976 in different States/Union Territories to identify any gaps in the policy framework and its implementation and give recommendations. The Group will meet periodically at regular intervals or as and when deemed necessary.
