Corruption by NHRC

India has made tremendous progress in various areas of national concern i.e. science, technology, health, education, justice, infrastructural development, etc., having direct bearing on development as well as self-efficacy. However, these areas of development and concern have been adversely affected by Corruption. Over the years, corruption has emerged as an industry and has become a way of life in India and it leads to sub-par infrastructure, poor regulation, day-to-day hassles for the common man, lost of revenue for the Government, ineffective services, in-efficient subsidies, lack of accountability, gross wastage of taxpayer's money and so on.
Corruption is one of the-issues of concern where the human rights of a common man are being violated and has a direct bearing on economic, social and cultural rights to which a common man is entitled.
In this background, the Commission is organizing a Conference on the issue of corruption. The two-day Conference being organized on 9th and 10th May 2006 will be inaugurated by His Excellency President Shri A.P.J Abdul Kalam. The first session will discuss on the topic "Impact of Corruption on Good Governance and on Human Rights". On second day there will be two sessions with (i) "Combating Corruption - Role Of Civil Society, Field Functionaries and Media" and (ii) "Need for Reforms in Existing Laws and Enforcement Mechanisms" as topics.
Eminent thinkers, intellectuals and legal experts including Shri N.Vittal, Prof. C.Raj Kumar, Adm R.H.Tahiliani, Prof. Ranbir Singh, Shri Soli Sorabji, Shri Vir Sanghvi, Shri Harish Salve, Shri Justice V.S.Malimath, Shri P.P.Rao and Shri Chaman Lal will take part in the deliberations.
Hon'ble Chief Justice of India, Justice Y.K.Sabharwal will give the Valedictory address.
