The National Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report that a youth died due to fatal injuries inflicted on him by CISF personnel at Bhilai Steel Plant.

The Commission has observed that the contents of the media report, carried on 28th October, 2013, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights of victim and issued notices to the Director General, CISF and Superintendent of Police, Durg, Chhattisgarh calling for reports within four weeks.

Reportedly, Rajendra Yadav, 28 years, was caught by CISF personnel on the intervening night of 25th - 26th October, 2013 on suspicion of theft in Bhilai Steel Plant. He was brutally thrashed, resulting in fatal injuries to him. Subsequently, they admitted him in the hospital, where he succumbed to death. The relatives of the deceased were informed about the incident only after they reached to the hospital enquiring about him.
