Media carried a report on the 12th October that a Jammu based businessman Rajneesh Sharma died in the Munshi Bagh police station in Srinagar on the 5th October. He was picked up by the J& K police on the 30th September. He had married Amina Yousaf, daughter of Mohd. Yousaf after she converted to Hinduism. Her family members were opposed to this marriage. The wife of the deceased alleged that her family members and police joined hands to kill her husband in police custody. No intimation about the said custodial death was received in the Commission from police authorities as per its guidelines. The Commission observed on the 19th October that the contents of the media report, if true, raise serious issue of violation of human rights of the victim and directed its Director General (Investigation) to collect requisite reports along with an explanation from the SP, Srinagar as to why no intimation about the said custodial death was not sent to the Commission.
