Elimination of Bonded Labour- Sensitization workshop
NHRC and the State Government of Andhra Pradesh organized a two-day sensitization workshop for the elimination of bonded labour, on October 17th & 18th 2006 at Hyderabad. Inaugurating the workshop Chief Minister Mr. Y.Rajashekhara Reddy said poverty and illiteracy have close relation with bonded labour and it cannot be eliminated without addressing these two problems. He asked the district collectors to take pro-active measures to totally eliminate bonded labour.
Justice Y.Bhaskar Rao, Member NHRC, who presided over the meeting said bonded labour is the worst form of exploitation and the biggest violation of human rights. Shri R. K. Bhargava, Secretary General, Smt. Aruna Sharma, Joint Secretary and Shri Lakshmidhar Mishra, Special Rapporteur NHRC also took part in the deliberations.
District Collectors, field functionaries, officers of the Departments of Social Welfare, Labour and Education, prominent NGOs and others participated in the workshop.
