Media carried reports on the 14th November, 2009 alleging that Geeta Mishra's new born child died in the hospital, hours after his birth by falling from a bed in the District Women's Hospital, Sitapur, UP. She was admitted to the hospital on the 10th November, 2009, and delivered a child the next day. She was provided a bed which was also being used by the mother of another new born. After the fall from the bed, the head of the new born was smashed, and he struggled for life for more than an hour after the incident. But no hospital employee came to his rescue despite repeated requests for help by his mother. On the contrary, the hospital staff was trying to suppress the incident and their negligence. Taking suo motu cognizance of these reports on the 26th November, 2009 the Commission observed that the contents therein, if true, raise serious issue of violation of human rights of the new born child and called for a report from the Chief Medical Officer, Seetapur, UP in the matter.
