Government complies with NHRC’s directions
The Commission is happy to note that the Ministry of Defence, Government of India, has complied with its recommendations regarding the payment of compensation to Smt. Mina Khatoon, wife of Shri Mohd. Tayab Ali, who had reportedly disappeared after last being seen in the custody of the Assam Rifles in Manipur.
The case had been reported in the Commission’s Newsletter of October 2002 (Vol. 9, No.10). The letter of the Defence Ministry conveyed the sanction of the President to pay compensation of a sum of Rs. 3.0 lakhs to Smt. Mina Khatoon and her children, the next of kin of the late Shri Mohd. Tayab Ali, resident of Keirang Muslim Village, Mayai Leikai, District Imphal (East), Manipur in compliance with the proceedings of the NHRC in the case.
