Human Rights awareness programme at District Chatra, Jharkhand
Mr. Satyabrata Pal, Member, NHRC led a team of the Commission comprising Dr. Sanjay Dubey, Director (Admin), Mr. Viplav Kumar, SSP and Mr. P.S. Rao, DSP to visit District Chatra in Jharkhand from the 22nd-23rd September, 2010 under the programme of visits to 28 select districts. The objective of the visit was to make people aware about their rights including Right to Food, Right to Education, Right to Health, Hygiene and Sanitation, Right to Custodial Justice, Right to Life etc., and monitor the implementation of the recommen-dations of the Commission on specific human rights issues. In this connection, the team took an on the spot assessment of the facilities in Schools, Primary and Community Health Centres, Ration shops, Anganwadi Centres, Gram Panchayat offices, Jails, Police Lock Up, Fair Price Shops etc. The feed back was shared with the various functionaries at Panchayat, District and State level at a workshop wherein NGOs and media persons were also present.
