HUMAN RIGHTS RACE ONGANIZED BY NHRC

The National Human Rights Commission, NHRC in collaboration with the Directorate of Education, Delhi Government organized a 'Human Rights Race' on India Gate - Rajpath in New Delhi today morning. Over 2000 senior secondary level children from 15 Delhi schools participated in the race in celebration of the 60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The children putting on special T-shirts and Caps carrying messages on promotion and protection of child rights completed a five kilometre race. The Hon'ble Member of the National Human Rights Commission Mr. Justice G.P. Mathur was the Chief Guest on the occasion. NHRC's Secretary General, Mr. A.K. Jain briefed the gathering about the significance of Human Rights Race while the live band of Delhi police played patriotic tunes to encourage the children. Before flagging off the race Justice Mathur administered the human rights oath to all the children and those present in large numbers to cheer up them in their effort to spread awareness about human rights. The children started race at Rajpath from India Gate opposite National Stadium carrying the tri colour, UDHR Flag and the Flag of the National Human Rights Commission as a constant reminder to the people for a collective approach to work for the promotion and protection of human rights of all. While running they also released colourful balloons as a symbolic message about unfettered human rights and came back to the same spot on returning from Vijay Chowk. Noted Cricketer Joginder Sharma who played a key role in the first 20-20 World Cup cricket victory of India was the star attraction on the occasion. Upcoming Cricketer Millind Gautam also joined the human rights race. The Hon'ble Members of the Commission ,Mr. Justice B.C. Patel and Mr. P.C. Sharma were also present on the occasion and gave away mementos to the guests. The officers and the staff of the Commission were present in full strength on the occasion to run with the children and volunteer for the smooth conduct of the human rights race, organized by the NHRC for the first time.
