Mr. Justice K.G. Balakrishnan, Chairperson, NHRC India led a delegation comprising Mr. P.C. Sharma, Member and Mr. J.P. Meena, Joint Secretary (P&A) to participate in deliberations at the International Coordinating Committee, (ICC 24) meeting from 16th-19th May, 2011 at Geneva. The delegation participated in the ICC Bureau meeting on the 16th May and ICC 24 General Meeting on the 17th -19th May, 2011. Delegation also participated in the workshop on the Role of Prevention in the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights on the 20th May, 2011 which was opened by the Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights. Meaningful contributions were made by the members of NHRC, India delegation during the discussions on important issues like amendment to the ICC Statutes, Report of Sub-Committee on Accreditation, Annual Report of the Financial Committee, NHRI-Treaty Body engagement etc. NHRC, India also made a presentation on the initiatives taken by it on Human Rights Education and Training which was appreciated by the representatives of many NHRIs. The delegation also participated in the Regional Meeting of Asia Pacific Forum held parallel to the General Meeting of ICC 24.
