NHRC to Jharkhand Govt: Submit ATR within stipulated time on Fluorosis

The National Human Rights Commission has found that a large number of villagers have had become crippled due to high fluoride in drinking water in three villages of Pratapur, Darmi and Parsi in Garhwa District of the State. Keeping in view the scarcity of drinking water and seriousness of health issues, the Commission has asked the Garhwa District Municipality to take immediate steps for supply of two water tankers daily in these villages without further loss of time.

The Commission has also asked the State Government to submit a status report on the 16 urgently required short-term measures suggested in the report of its Special Rapporteur, Smt. S. Jalaja. The Commission, in the year 2011, had taken suo motu cognizance of the problem of high content of fluoride in water.
