Interactive session of NHRC interns with Delhi police personnel
On the 13th January, 2012 the NHRC organized an interactive session of Delhi police officers and its winter interns.
Addressing the participants, Mr. P.C. Sharma, Member, NHRC said that as the law enforcement agency, police draw an interface with the public as a result of which there are situations where issues of human rights come in sharp focus. Therefore, he said that the police officials should desist from wrongful practices like non-registration of complaints, fake encounters and false implications etc., as these create a feeling of dissatisfaction among public against the police force. He also stated that senior police officers should shield their juniors from any political pressure while discharging their duty.
Mr. Sunil Krishna, Director General (Investigation), NHRC, while referring to the need for police reforms, also impressed upon the police personnel to be more sensitive to the needs of the general public and particularly the disadvantaged sections of society.
The Session was attended by Mr. J.S. Kochher, Joint Secretary (Trg) and the other officers of the Commission.
