Jharkhand Government complies with NHRC's recommendations

With the intervention of the National Human Rights Commission, the Ministry of Health, Government of Jharkhand has allotted two vehicles for NGOs involved in the Community Mental Health Programme in the State. The vehicles will be used to bring patients from remote areas in need of emergency treatment. During the recent visit to the Ranchi Institute of Psychiatry and Allied Sciences (RINPAS), Knake, Ranchi, Jharkhand, Mr. P.C. Sharma, Member, NHRC had also asked the Health Secretary, Government of Jharkhand to take steps for early release of 45 crore rupees of RINPAS lying with the State Government. He said that the fund could be used for improving medical facilities, infrastructure and academic facilities at the Institute.

Mr. Sharma had gone to Ranchi to chair NHRC's first Regional Review Meeting on Mental Health for the Eastern Region on 5th June this year. The State Government has promised to do the needful and send a confirmation on the action taken to the Commission shortly.
