Justice Shri Cyriac Joseph, Member, NHRC inaugurated a seminar on the 'Protection of Human Rights in Educational Institutions', jointly organised by the Commission and the St. Joseph's High School Alumni Association at Piravom, Ernakulam, Kerala on the 16th February, 2014.
Addressing the gathering, he said that the protection of human rights is not only the duty of the Government but also of the people. Equal opportunity should be given to all aspirants, irrespective of their economic status, caste, creed and religion, during the process of admission in schools and colleges so that their human rights are not violated. The schools must also provide qualified teachers, safe drinking water, toilets, healthcare facilities and sufficient infrastructure.
