Justice Shri Cyriac Joseph joins NHRC as Member.

In pursuance of the Warrant of Appointment signed by the President of India on 18th May, 2013, Justice Shri Cyriac Joseph assumed office as Member of the National Human Rights Commission on the 27th May, 2013. Prior to his appointment as Member, NHRC, he was a Judge in the Supreme Court of India from 7th July, 2008 to 27th January, 2012.

Born on the 28th January, 1947, he completed his education from St. Margarette's U.P. School Kaipuzha, St. George's High School, Kaipuzha, St. Thomas College, Palai, St. Berchmans' College, Changanacherry and Law College, Trivandrum. He enrolled as an advocate on 12th October, 1968 and practiced in the District Court, Kottayam and the Kerala High Court at Ernakulam. He worked as a High Court Government Pleader from 1976 to 1979 and as a Liaison Officer and Senior Government Pleader in the High Court from 1979 to 1987.

He served as Additional Advocate General, State of Kerala from 1991 to 1994 and was appointed as a permanent Judge of the Kerala High Court on 6th July, 1994. On transfer to the Delhi High Court, he assumed office as Judge on 5th August, 1994. He was transferred back to the Kerala High Court on 24th September, 2001. He was appointed Chief Justice of the High Court of Uttaranchal (now Uttarkhand) with effect from 20th March, 2005. On transfer to Karnataka High Court, he assumed office of Chief Justice there on 7th January, 2006. Justice Shri Cyriac Joseph became Judge of the Supreme Court of India on 7th July, 2008.
