Justice Verma inaugurates Rotary Blood Mobile
Rotary Club in Delhi dedicated to the nation an air-conditioned Blood Mobile at a function in New Delhi on 5 May 2000. The Blood Mobile was inaugurated by Shri Justice J.S. Verma, Chairperson, National Human Rights Commission.
Speaking on the occasion, Justice Verma lauded Rotary for their excellent track record in humanitarian service to society, particularly for the poorer segment. He congratulated the Rotary Clubs of Delhi for their latest initiative in collecting and providing safe blood to people in need.
This Blood Mobile is the first of its kind in the country and will go to colleges, business establishments and Rotary Club locations to facilitate blood donations. Three donors will be able to donate blood at a time on specially designed blood donation couches inside the van itself. The estimated cost of the bus is Rs. 27.5 lakhs.
The blood will be fully tested against HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis A, B and C and other infections before being supplied for transfusion. It will be available from this Blood Bank to those in need for a nominal service charge on replenishment basis.
