On the 19th November, 2013, Shri Satyabrata Pal, Member, NHRC briefed a group of media persons in New Delhi on cases of police action in Manipur taken up by the Commission during the Camp Sitting in Imphal from the 23rd to 25th October, 2013. He said that the State Government's failure in providing convincing answers raised doubts about the genuineness of most of the encounter cases. In reply to a specific question about encounter cases in Assam, he said that the Commission has sought reports in more than 50 cases.
