Media reports police beating 3-year old daughter of an under trial prisoner in UP: NHRC issues notice to SSP, Bulandshahar

The National Human Rights Commission has taken suo-motu cognizance of a media report that a three-year old daughter of an under trial prisoner was severely beaten up by the police personnel in court premises of ADJ, Khurja, Bulandshahar, UP on 2nd May, 2013.
The Commission has observed that the content of the press report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights of the child. A notice has been issued to the SSP, Bulandshahar, calling for a report, including the disciplinary action, if any, taken against the delinquent police officials. He has been given four weeks time to respond.
The incident happened when an under trial prisoner, lodged in District Jail, Bulandshahar, was brought to the Court of ADJ, Khurja, in connection with the hearing of his case. His family had also come there. After the hearing, seeing her father leaving in police custody, the daughter started crying. The father could not resist himself and took her in his hands. Reportedly, this action enraged the policemen so much that they not only forcibly took the daughter away from the father, but also severely beat her.
