The National Human Rights Commission organized a meeting of its reconstituted Core Group on Disability on the 3rd June, 2011. The meeting was chaired by Mr. P.C. Sharma, Member, NHRC. Some of the important issues discussed during the meeting are as follows:
o Action Taken on the minutes of the meeting of Core Group on Disability held on the 5th November, 2009;
o The new draft law on disability replacing existing Persons with Disabilities Act, 1995;
o Harmonization of new draft law on disability with the new draft Mental Health Care Bill;
o Proposed amendments in the National Trust for Welfare of Persons with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation and Multiple Disabilities Act, 1999;
o Organization of NHRC's regional review meetings with State Commissioners for Persons with Disabilities; and
o Draft National Food Security Bill.
