New Delhi, 29 January 2004

In a bit to facilitate better co-ordination with State Human Rights Commissions (SHRCs) and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), a meeting is being held at New Delhi on Friday, 30 January 2004. The meeting would discuss the suggestions sent in by 12 of the 13 SHRCs on topics such as
i) Coordination and sharing of information.
ii) Training awareness building and publication of human rights issues in regional languages.
iii) Substantive human rights issues such as problems in jails, and
iv) NHRC's recommendations for amendments to the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993.

Besides the meeting, the publications of NHRC and SHRCs on human rights issues will be on display at the venue. 10 SHRCs are expected to participate in the deliberations.
