Mentally ill woman chained in Rajasthan

Media carried report on the 2nd May, 2010 that a mentally disturbed woman Shravani Devi of the village Meenon Ki Thadhi, Sikar, Rajasthan is chained by her husband with a tree in open while leaving for work in the morning. The husband, a labourer, takes her back to his thatched roof house only when he returns in the evening. Taking suo motu cognizance of the media report, the Commission on the 25th May, 2010 observed that the contents of the press report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of Shravani's human rights and issued notice to the Superintendant of
Police, Sikar calling for report in the matter.
