NHRC asked the Government of Tamil Nadu to pay a compensation of three lakh rupees instead of one lakh to the next of kin of the deceased, Murugesan who died due to police excess in the firing on August 6, 2002. Taking into consideration the conclusion of Magisterial Inquiry, the Commission found that there was a flagrant violation of human right in the matter.
