Mr. Justice B.C. Patel, Member, NHRC visited Police Training Centre, Bhondsi, Gurgaon (Haryana) on the 26th June, 2012. Addressing the trainee police personnel, he said that they are expected to respect human rights of the people while discharging their duties. He said that ignorance of laws and lack of information about their jobs cannot be an excuse to violate human rights of others. If they are found on erring side of law, they may invite serious action against them and their supervisory officers.
Justice Patel said that the NHRC has the power to get the matters relating to violation of human rights investigated on its own and also recommend stern action against the delinquent police personnel. 639 police personnel attended the session.
