Mr. Justice D. Murugesan completes his tenure as a Member of NHRC, India (20.09.2018)

New Delhi, 20th September, 2018

Mr. Justice D. Murugesan, today on the 20th September, 2018, completed his tenure of five years as a Member of the National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, India. He had joined the Commission on the 21st September, 2013. Prior to his appointment as Member, NHRC, he was the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court from the 26th September, 2012 to the 9th June, 2013. He was born in Cumbum Pudupatti, Theni District, Tamil Nadu on the 10th June, 1951.

As a Member, NHRC, Justice Murugesan, in addition to disposing of cases of human rights violations, chaired several workshops on the elimination of bonded labour besides being part of the Commission's Seminars, Conferences and Open Hearings and Camp Sittings for hearing of cases of atrocities against the SC and ST communities, which were organized in various parts of the country.

He also attended important International Conferences/Seminars including, among others, the 28th Annual General Meeting of International Coordinating Committee of National Institutions for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights (ICC) and Commonwealth Forum National Human Rights Institutions (CFNHRI) held in Geneva, Switzerland from 11th March to 13th March, 2015, Consultation Meeting on the Strategic Plan (2016-2020) held in Dhaka on 16th August, 2015.
