The UN Special Rapporteur on "Freedom of Religion and Belief" Ms. Asma Jahangir, visited the Commission in New Delhi on March 19, 2008. Ms Asma Jahangir called on the Chairperson Justice Shri S. Rajendra Babu. She also had discussions with the Chairperson, Members and Senior Officials of the Commission. The visiting dignitary discussed the instances of communal violence in different parts of India, rehabilitation of riot affected people in Gujarat, and the issue of religious conversion. Ms. Jahangir was briefed about the Commission's working and co-ordination between the NHRC and the SHRCs.
