National conference on human rights approach to women empowerment
Mr. O.P. Vyas, Assistant Registrar (Law) represented the National Human Rights Commission at a national conference on "Rethinking Feminism-Human Rights Approach to Women Empowerment" at University of Rajasthan, Jaipur from 3rd -4th March, 2012. The conference was organized by the Department of Political Science of the University of Rajasthan under the aegis of the Commission.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Vyas spoke about the role of the Commission in promoting and protecting the rights of women, children and bonded labour. He also presented case studies of some women victims of human rights violations and how the NHRC investigation team helped them. He emphasized that education of girls and women is important for their empowerment.
The conference was also addressed, among others, by Dr. Girija Vyas, former Chairperson, National Commission for Women and Mr. Justice N.K. Jain, former Chairperson, Rajasthan State Human Rights Commission.
