National Seminar in Hindi on 'Indian concept of human rights'


The National Human Rights Commission organised a two-day National Seminar in Hindi on "Indian Concept of Human Rights: A Dialogue" in collaboration with the Tripura University at University Campus from the 15th - 16th November, 2013.
Inaugurating the seminar, Justice Shri K.G. Balakrishnan, Chairperson, NHRC said that the Commission has requested the Chief Ministers to constitute State Human Rights Commissions. So far 24 States have set up them. But these need to be made fully functional by appointment of Chairpersons, Members and support staff.
Eminent scholars who participated in the discussions, included, among others, Prof. Radha Vallabh Tripathi, renowned writer, Prof. R.C. Shrivastava, Acting Vice-Chancellor, Tripura University, Prof. Gurjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor, National Law University and Judicial Academy, Guwahati, Prof. Shambhu Nath, Prof. Arun Kamal and Prof. Veena Bakshi. NHRC officers, Dr. Parvinder Sohi Behuria, Secretary General, Shri J.S. Kochher, Joint Secretary and Dr. S.K. Shukla, Asstt. Director (OL) also attended the seminar.
The NHRC has been organising these seminars in different parts of the country for building awareness on human rights.
