National Seminar in Hindi on Judiciary, Democracy and Tradition
The National Human Rights Commission organized a two day National Seminar in Hindi on 'Judiciary, Democracy and Tradition: An Evaluation' in Collaboration with P.G. Department of Law, Utkal University at Bhubaneswar from the 5th - 6th February, 2015.
Addressing the Inaugural Session, Justice Shri K.G. Balakrishnan, Chairperson, NHRC and the Chief Guest presented an overview of the role of judiciary in democracy. He also said that in a democracy, voice of common man should be reflected in the public policies. Prof. Nand Kishore Acharya, renowned writer and thinker, IIT, Hyderabad, Prof. Ashoka Kumar Das, Vice-Chancellor, Utkal University were among the other eminent speakers who addressed the three academic sessions.
Justice Shri Cyriac Joseph, Member, NHRC and the Chief Guest of the Valedictory Session, traced down the close relation between the tradition and human rights by highlighting the role of judiciary in a democracy. Dr. Ranjit Singh, Joint Secretary (P&A), NHRC also addressed the gathering. Dr. Saroj Kumar Shukla, Assistant Director (Official Language), NHRC coordinated the Seminar.
