NHRC asks Delhi Government to pay Rs. 1,80,000/- as monetary relief to victims of road accident involving a PCR van

The National Human Rights Commission has asked the Delhi Government to pay Rs. 1,80,000/- as monetary relief to six persons who were injured in a road accident involving a Police Control Room van. The Commission has directed that Rs. 50,000/- each be paid to three persons who were grievously injured and Rs. 10,000/- each to other injured in the accident. The Commission has also called for compliance report along with the proof of payment made to the victims.
The Commission has given this recommendation on complaints alleging that on the 3rd October, 2011 a PCR van driven at a high speed by Head Constable, Murari Lal had climbed up at a footpath near Barapullah flyover causing injuries to six persons who were sleeping there. The reports sent by Delhi police in response to NHRC notices revealed that Head Constable was arrested for rash and negligent driving.
