NHRC asks Kerala Government to pay monetary relief to the victims of Endosulfan without further delay

New Delhi, August 30th, 2011

The National Human Rights Commission has asked the Kerala Government that it should pay monetary relief to the victims of Endosulfan in Kasargod district without any further delay. A representative of the State Government who attended a review meeting on the 26th August, 2011 called by the Commission on the status of implementation of its recommendations was asked to comply with them within four weeks.

The Commission on the 31st December, 2010 through a detailed order had recommended that the State should pay at least rupees five lakhs to the next of kin of those who died and to those who were fully bed ridden/unable to move without help or mentally retarded and rupees three lakhs to those who have got other disability. A panel of doctors may assess the extent of physical disability to classify the categories of victims.
