NHRC called for a report from Inspector General of Police, Railways, Lucknow in an incident cops threw pregnant woman from moving train.

The Commission took suo-motu cognizance of a news report under caption 'Pregnant woman dies after cops throw her off train' published in The Times of India dated 20/6/2009.
The report inter-alia alleged that two constables of the Government Railway Police (GRP) pushed a pregnant woman to death along with her three years old daughter, from a moving train on 18/6/2009 as she failed to pay them a bribe of Rs. 100/- for traveling without ticket in the Mallani-Gonda passenger train. She died on the spot. However, Kavita's daughter who was in her mother's lap, escaped unhurt.
The Commission considers it as serious issue of violation of human rights of the victims.
The Commission transmitted a copy of the press report to Inspector General of Police, Railways, Lucknow calling for a report within four weeks.
