NHRC constitutes a Core Group on Protection and Welfare of Elderly Persons
New Delhi, November 26th, 2010
The National Human Rights Commission has constituted a Core Group on the Protection and Welfare of Elderly Persons. The terms of reference of the Core Group are as under:
" To review existing governments policies, laws/rules/orders etc. and other material from human rights perspective and make an assessment of current status of enforcement of the rights of the elderly in different States/UTs in India;
" To identify voids and gaps in the policy framework for implementation and suggest measures to fill the same;
" To identify important human rights issues concerning the elderly and to suggest measures as appropriate for better protection of their rights;
" To suggest plan of action for enforcement of right of elderly persons;
" To examine best practice in India and abroad dealing with the care of elderly;
" Any other issue which is considered relevant to the subject by the Group.
The thirteen member core group comprises representatives of leading NGOs, hospitals, universities, research institutes and societies working for the welfare of senior citizens in the country.
